Friday, July 21st, 2006 - Golden BC

What can be said about Golden BC? We’ve played at the same bar now three years in a row. The Roadhouse Tavern is a strip club in a town of lumberjacks and miners. For three consecutive years, we’ve seen three different owners make the same consecutive efforts.

Mim gets ready to rock Golden. (Note the brass pole)

"We’re trying to steer away from the strippers and become more of a nightclub."

The night starts with old burley men, walking in saying "oh no, it’s a stinkin’ band". Then they come in for a drink anyways. Our music falls on deaf ears as some scream "put the girls back on!"

At the end of the night, three years in a row, the manager says "you’re the best band we’ve had here in a while. You guys want to book a winter gig? It’s a lot better here in the winter."

Positively, the gig pays well, the hotel rooms are 4-star, and the drink's flow freely. The barstaff, Ryan and two awesome sisters, Mel and Dori, kept us as entertained, as we did them. They left the brass pole on stage for us. There were no fist fights this year! A handful of pretty cool outdoorsy people showed up for a while. We improvised a pretty good birthday song for a lady named Simena.

Ryan, points out our band sticker from three years ago.

We only sold three CD’s all night. Nobody wanted a t-shirt. It was hard even to give away stickers.

Strange place that Golden. Can’t wait to play there next year!
