July 18th, 2006 - Calgary, AB
The afternoon excitement began when we were played on the CBC radio.
It wasn't the greatest gig in Calgary on a Tuesday night. On the positive side, Dan, our bartender, said that Karma is usually painful on Tuesdays.
Our favorite campsite in Cochrane, AB includes wi/fi and electricity.
Marta, who saw us two years ago, returned with her fiance, Charlie. Kevin Derbyshire, Carl's cousin, was in province for a work contract. He videotaped the improvised Charlie and Marta song, which they plan to play at their wedding. An old friend, Casey Ladowski stumbled in during our second set. Myrna, from Kananaskis showed up.
Last night in Calgary, I did something funky to my bad foot's heel. With Jojo's breakdance, Casey's bassline, the recent improvised singing of Charlie and Marta's wedding song, and Myrna's performance of the AC/DC megamix, the crowd was hyped. There was no way I couldn't give up the biggest jump ending I could muster.
Today, the doctors, receptionists, nurses and radiologists got a kick out of my sprained ankle story. Dr. Tran said "So let me get this straight, you incurred this injury by doing a jump ending at a rock show?".
On the drive home from the hospital, we were on CBC radio once again... well, sort of. I phoned in to talk to the automotive expert about my transmission, live-to-air. I must tell you now, that I am a full expert on Ford transmissions. One more little fix-it tomorrow, and we're set to cross the Rockies.
