Saturday, July 15, 2006 - Banff p3

It's a beautiful, warm sunny day in Banff as I write this. The cool breeze is drying the light sweat on my brow.

Myself, I just climbed a mountain. My feet are blistered and sore. I might take an afternoon siesta.

Joe is off climbing a more challenging mountain trail.

Mim has been working on her early musical theory workbook in the chalet.

Mim, making music theory books in her bedroom.

Carl and Cindy have been shopping and enjoying the attractions over in Canmore.

I got the van back from the mechanics. They say that there is no problem with the transmission. Hmmf I say! The shop owner said "you need two vans to carry what you are carrying." So, we've decided on new Osiris rules. No more driving when the temperature is too hot. This years tour see's us with a lot less long drives besides crossing the Prairies.

Last night was another wonderful night of music and dancing. We really enjoy the tourist party atmosphere of this Banff town. The crowd is international. A lot of Americans and Europeans and also Asians and Australians. Like Toronto, I don't think there is anyone who is actually truely 'local'. It makes for good conversation between songs, discussing where the audience is from and comparing travelling notes.

Friday night dancefloor. That's Newfie Rich in the blue shirt giving the devil sign.

Some of our old friends from Newfoundland came out. They got a little crazy out in the crowd. They moved to Calgary recently and are not used to making so much money. Brian made it his mission to spend $500 last night. He couldn't do it. Richard Ball, who co-wrote our famous Boat Trilogy, passed out face first onto my monitor during the third set. Somehow, in true Maritime tradition, he didn't spill either of my onstage beers. This afternoon, I tried to take them up the mountain with me. That didn't happen.

Joe took this pic of Canmore from atop Chinaman's Peak.

Us Miner's have entered the evil world of cover songs. 'Covering a song' means to play someone else’s radio friendly, famous song. We've got a new AC/DC megamix, some Gnarl's Barkley, Gorillaz, Gretchen Wilson, Billy Idol, (Click here to hear a CM Cover). Covers are easy to learn, and they please the crowd. Any band of songwriters knows that it's much funner and fulfilling to play one's own original music... but you should see the crowd's go crazy for AC/DC yo!

Third and final night in Banff, being Saturday, promises to be quite the night.
